When to Consider FlexLab

Overview

Move from Codeless to FlexLab when dashboard-only workflows are insufficient for custom code, Git review, and CI/CD.

Signals to upgrade tier

  • Need custom Drupal modules via Composer.
  • Require merge request previews and branch pipelines.
  • Want local development with flexsite CLI syncing production data.
  • Theme Marketplace limits block your design system (custom theme in Git).

Steps — create FlexLab instead

  1. Create a new project at /dashboard/[orgId]/new-project.
  2. Select Drupal 11 with Flexlab category (not Codeless Drupal CMS).
  3. Choose Blank template and optional default theme.
  4. Clone GitLab repo from project Code tab.

Migrating existing Codeless

Export content and config from Codeless (backup + Drupal migration tools) into a new FlexLab project. There is no one-click Codeless→FlexLab button; plan a content migration project.

Atom users upgrade to Codeless first via Upgrade, then evaluate FlexLab separately.
